Hitzacker is located where the Jeetzel flows into the Elbe. And at the very tip of the headland that separates the Jeetzel and the Elbe, you will find this buoy with the inscription “Hitzacker.” It is a very popular photo motif.
On the right-hand side you can see the Jeetzel, on the left-hand side the Elbe. So the mouth of the river is basically behind me – one step back and I would have had one foot in the Elbe – or rather in the Jeetzel.
On the left-hand side of the picture you can also see the ferry landing stage. During the summer months, the small passenger ferry Elbe docks here, connecting Hitzacker with Bitter.
