River Seege in the mist near Gartow

River Seege in the mist near Gartow

The small river Seege in the mist between Gartow and Restorf, view from the lake bridge. A delicate mist hangs over the river, between the trees and on the meadows, the trees on the banks of the Seege are reflected in the water, dramatic gray-grey clouds hang over the landscape. And on closer inspection, a few horses can be seen in the mist on the left of the picture.

Sunrise, Fog over the Fields, Wendland

Sunrise, Fog over the Fields

Got up rather early, saw the sun rise over the mist covered fields, went outside, took this picture. Also November mornings can be beautiful.

Tram on Kastanienallee by Night, Berlin Prenzlauer Berg

Tram on Kastanienallee by Night

A Tram passing by on Kastanienallee in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg. It’s October, it’s late in the evening – it’s dark and foggy. A couple is waiting at the crossing of Oderberger Strasse and Kastanienallee. The bright yellow tram is about the only colorful thing in this grey grey night.

The Slackers SO36 Berlin Kreuzberg

The Slackers at SO36

This was the first real indoor concert for me since the beginning of the pandemic: The Slackers at SO36 in Berlin Kreuzberg. And I was even playing with my fine band as support act / opening act. What a great evening!

Berlin Brunnenstrasse Bernauer Strasse

Brunnenstrasse / Bernauer Strasse, TV-Tower

The crossing Brunnenstrasse / Bernauer Strasse is one of the busier crossings: not only does the Brunnenstrasse meet the Bernauer Strasse — but there is also the U8 underground station Bernauer Strasse as well as the Tram M10 station with the same name. And the Berlin Wall Memorial is right around the corner.

With all the traffic going on you might miss that the crossing has also a rather decent view to the TV Tower to offer.

sunset with swan on a lake

Sunset with Swan on a Lake

View from the dyke at the pumping station near Penkefitz towards Hitzacker. In the foreground the lake Taube Elbe with a swan, in the background meadows covered by fog, on the horizon the silhouette of the Drawen hills. No wonder people stop here all year round to take photos – or just to pause and enjoy the view.

Summer Schoolyard Berlin

Schoolyard in Summer

It’s summer holidays in Berlin – the schoolyard is correspondingly empty. Especially on this late summer evening. Only one bicycle is still in the bicycle stand – in the background the fire walls of a neighbouring house are shining – in the night sky the stars are twinkling.

Butterfly: Swallowtail - Papilio Machaon

Swallowtail – Papilio Machaon

A swallowtail (Papilio Machaon) on the meadow in front of our house. At first I noticed the butterfly because of its size. On the summer lilac (butterfly bush), the swallowtail stood out among the other butterflies already because of its size. The swallowtail can have a wingspan of 50 to 75 millimeters – this one had an estimated 60 millimeter wingspan.

The butterfly then flew away from the butterfly bush at first without me being able to take a reasonable photo – but then landed a little further on the dry meadow – so I could take a photo quite relaxed.

The Kronprinsen Building / Concrete Jungle

The Kronprinsen building in Malmø with quite a concrete jungle covering parts of the image. The photo was taken from the Slottsparken, the park closest to Kronprinsenon, on the other side of the big street Regementsgatan.

Ögat by Annika Svenbro, Malmö

Ögat, Annika Svenbro

The installation Ögat by Annika Svenbro, Malmö. Originally, the round screen set into a concrete base right at the foot of the Turning Torso in Malmö was supposed to show live images taken from the top of the skyscraper. However, that never really worked out. Since 2012, the surface has instead featured the artwork Ögat (‘Eye’) by Swedish artist Annika Svenbro.

Marschtorstraße, St.-Johannis Church, Dannenberg

Marschtorstraße, view to the St.-Johannis Church

View from Marschtorstraße in the direction of the town center. The street is still decorated with green-yellow flag garlands because of the Schützenfest, in front of the houses are small birches – also part of the town decoration in the context of the Dannenberg Schützenfest. In the background, the steeple of St. Johannis Church can be seen.

Inside the round village 'Rundling' Lübeln, Wendland

Inside the Rundling

On the occasion of the Kulturelle Landpartie 2022 we have once again paid a visit to the Rundlingsdorf Lübeln. On the grounds of the Rundlingsmuseum were many stalls where you could find and of course also buy all kinds of beautiful things made of wood and felt, as well as seedlings, fabrics, clothes and much more. I have not taken any pictures of all this. Instead, a view of the village square – on the left you can see the local bus stop.

Berlin TV Tower in the Green

TV Tower in the Green

Berlin is a very green city. You can see this again and again if you want to take a picture of the TV tower in early summer, for example. Here the view from the intersection of Veteranenstrasse and Fehrbelliner Strasse across Weinbergspark towards Mitte – or towards the TV tower.

Castor X-Monument in Dannenberg

Castor X-Monument in Dannenberg

The Castor Memorial mainly consists of a pair of railway rails welded together to form an X, which are mounted on a piece of track. Underneath the X is a pyramid like those used in some blockade actions.

Behind the X is a signpost showing the distances to various places connected with nuclear facilities and accidents: Krümmel, Fukushima, Wismut, Chernobyl, Asse II and of course Gorleben.

In the background, the Amtsberg with the Waldemar Tower.

arable land traces - accidental art

Arable Land Traces

View from the lookout tower between Langendorf and Grippel to a freshly harrowed field. Of course, you can also see other things from the lookout tower as well: for example, you have a great view of the river Elbe – and towards the south-east you can see the drilling tower near Gorleben. But sometimes it’s the little things that make you happy. So I found the tracks on the field very nice to look at – viewed from above you can see very nicely how the field was harrowed.

Weinberg Treppe Hitzacker

Weinberg stairs towards the Elbe

The vinyard hill ‘Weinberg’ offers various great views of Hitzacker, the Elbe River and the vastness of the meadows on the east side of the Elbe River, at least when the trees on the Weinberg have no or only few leaves.

The paths of ascent and descent that the Weinberg offers one are similarly varied. This is one with a view of the river Elbe. From the stairs on the northwest side, you have a great view of the Elbe and the Elbe meadows offshore, as well as a ‘dead’ arm of the Elbe that, depending on the water level, could of course have once been an offshoot of the river Jeetzel.

Hitzacker, Weinberg, Elbe

Hitzacker, Elbe, Jeetzel (seen from the Weinberg)

A very typical view of the island town between Elbe and Jeetzel is the vineyard perspective: Hitzacker from above – seen from the vineyard. On the left of the picture is the Elbe, in the foreground the Jeetzel – in the middle the old town of Hitzacker.

Spring: Daffodils and Moss in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin

Spring: daffodils and moss in Prenzlauer Berg

Spring in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg – a shop window decoration on Kastanienallee that also works when the shutters are down: Daffodils and a lattice surface covered with moss playfully complement the graffiti on the roller shutter. It is colourful. It is spring. It’s ok.

Frozen Grass, Wendland

Frozen Grass on an Early Morning

Two days before the beginning of spring, it has really frozen again at night – the grasses are covered with hoarfrost. In the backlight of the rising winter sun, you can see the silhouettes of birch and pine trees.

Flooded Elbe meadows, Wendland

Partly flooded Elbe meadows

At high tide, the water also rises on this side of the dike. The picture shows a part of Lake Penkefitz, which is more like a meadow when the water level is low, but looks like a lake at high tide.

Oderrberger Strasse Berlin Prenzlauer Berg

Oderberger Strasse from above

Oderberger Straße in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg, seen from a window of the Hotel Stadtbad Oderberger.

On the left is the direction of Kastanienallee and Mauerpark, on the right to Choriner Straße, Schönhauser Allee, Kulturbrauerei.

Diagonally opposite is the bar/ café Kapitalist, next to it the laundromat.

Because of a repair of our heating, we had relocated ourselves and moved to the hotel for two nights. We always wanted to have a look at the Stadtbad from a guest perspective, so we took the opportunity and made the most of it.

Grave of Frederick the Great, Potsdam

The Grave of Frederick the Great

Flowers and Potatoes at the tomb of Frederick the Great.

Frederick the Great, or Frederick II, was also known as the Potato King. He issued orders several times during his reign that the peasants should grow potatoes. These orders are also known as potato orders.

During his reign, some parts of Prussia experienced repeated famines over the years. Frederick the Great saw the cultivation of the potato as a way of countering these.

Zionskirche / Zionskirchplatz, Berlin Mitte

The Zion Church on the Zionskirchplatz named after it on a cold but beautiful day in January. Blue sky, white snow, black trees – it’s rare to see Zionskirchplatz so wintry pretty.

The picture is taken from the corner where Griebenowstraße meets Zionskirchplatz. A view of the church, which is probably also rather atypical.
