Cheese Window Delft Skyline

Cheese Window, Delft Skyline

A shop window at the market square near the Nieuwe Kerk – packed with big round yellow cheese wheels. Just as you might imagine when you think of a typical Dutch cheese store window.

Pizza

Pizza

Finally a sheet of homemade pizza: with eggplant, tomato sauce, basil, red onions and spinach. Of course, the dough and tomatoe sauce were also homemade.

I have to admit that my homemade pizza is not necessarily as tasty as the ones you get from a proper pizza shop. But homemade is homemade. And I’m glad that after the years, I finally got to make my own pizza. Yay!

I worked at a pizza delivery service as a student and built and baked literally hundreds of pizzas. But to make a really good pizza, I think it takes a little more than just brushing up on a rusty routine. Well, anyway. Bon apétit!

Wilde Erdbeeren, Sommer in Finnland

Wild Strawberries

Summer in Finland – wild strawberries at the edge of the forest. The strawberries are tiny and not particularly sweet or aromatic – but that’s not always the point. It’s just a special experience to discover wild strawberries by the wayside and take a few home with you to decorate your yogurt, for example.

Strawberries

Strawberries

Strawberries belong to the Finnish summer just like new potatoes, herring and peas, During the summer months you can get fresh Finnish strawberries in principle on every corner. And somehow Finnish strawberries taste different – they are sweeter and juicier than the strawberries I am used to from German supermarkets. Maybe it’s because in Finland the summer days are so long and the strawberries get especially much sun?

Pasta Carbonara à la Kati

Pasta Carbonara à la Kati

A nice twist on a classic Pasta Carbonara recipe: a fresh yolk is served in its own shell on to of the pasta! Sheer greatness! And so delicious!

New Potatoes in a Finnish Supermarket

New Potatoes

New Potatoes are very popular in Finland and are simply part of the Finnish summer. And in mid-June you can get new potatoes almost everywhere. Here is a typical functional form of presentation – a large potato chute like the ones you see in many supermarkets.

Apples on wooden board

Today it’s apple day in the UK – so I take the opportunity to upload some apple photos.

Äpfel und Trauben in einer Kiste

Apples and Grapes in a Box

Another random still life: Apples and grapes in a wooden box. The lighting conditions are far from ideal, but I still like the photo for its colours and fruitiness. And the darkness somehow also suits the picture. I think.

Pears Still Life by Chance

Sometimes it’s like this: you’re in the country side, some celebration in a barn, located in a village that is famous for its pears. An empty table that is about to tranform into a buffet soon – and somebody places a few pears randomly on that table. Suddenly you’re struck by the beauty of the situation – and the photo turns out to be what I would call an accidental still life. Greatness.
