Sky and Earth and Country Air
Summer of the Elbuferstrasse in the Wendland: blue sky with a few clouds, a field, vastness, peace and quiet. The photo may look like a montage, but it’s not.

Art on building in Berlin-Mitte: A sculpture stands on a roof and waves or greets passers-by.
Two-story houses, green facades, yellow window, sculpture on the roof – Berlin-Mitte skyline near Ackerstrasse / Invalidenstrasse
Calm wind on the Baltic Sea in southern Sweden: a mirror-like water surface – hardly a breath of wind to be felt. Picturesque Baltic Sea view with ‘interesting’ sky: the next rain shower is already lurking. Erratic blocks in the water, greenery, sand.
View upwards during the crossing of the Öresund Bridge: the mighty pylons of the Öresund Bridge and an ‘interesting’ sky full of clouds.
Once again a trip to Sweden – and once again we cross the bridge. On the way we get a first impression of the Swedish summer: sun over the Öresund, thick rain clouds over Malmö – once again a nice view of the Öresund Bridge – or would ‘on or from the Öresund Bridge’ be more appropriate…? Ah…
Summer in Lüchow-Dannenberg:
View of the so-called Torii tower near Gusborn,
a farmer blasting his fields,
blue sky, green forests.
View of the solar eclipse SoFi 2015 at Zionskirchplatz, Berlin Prenzlauer Berg. The sun was of course also despite eclipse so bright that on an ordinary photo hardly something of the spectacle is to be seen – everything faded over. But with closer view one can recognize at least in the light reflections the sun with advanced moon – however turned by 180° – or mirrored. Here a detail enlargement from the first picture:
I had three different cameras and special glasses in use on that day. My Canon did not produce a single usable picture – for the use of a reflex camera I would have had to have also the appropriate filter as well as a tripod. A SONY compact camera delivered at least pictures, on which the sun and the houses were to be recognized – but the actual solar eclipse was not to be recognized on the pictures. Surprisingly, the camera of the iPhone 4s produced the most useful results – even if only via the detour of the light reflections. But still: evidence.
After half an eternity of typical Berlin winter weather (gray-grey-grey sauce) is worth me today’s sunshine times a separate blog entry. The sun is supposed to show up according to the weather forecast this week even more often – but maybe the weekend is then already again end with fun? Let’s see….
View of the harbour in the centre of Helsinki. The Silja Line ferry terminal is on the right.
The fir trees are thickly padded with snow – a view you might recognise from many Nordic or Lapland photos.
In this winter picture it is difficult to tell where the fog is actually a cloud – and where the blue sky begins. In any case, it is no wonder that Finland’s national colours are “blue and white”.
Blue sky and sunshine – crowds and double-decker bus on Oxford Street near Hyde Park / Speakers’ Corner
A crane is being erected on a new construction site on the corner of Invalidenstrasse and Ackerstrasse (Berlin-Mitte) with the help of a mobile crane. Actually, something like this is exciting enough – the scene was given additional drama by the moving autumn sky. In the backlight, the crane ballet becomes a shadow theatre.
Double rainbow on Saturday afternoon, Brunnenstrasse corner Voltastrasse, Berlin-Wedding.
What a weather or storm: first rain, then squalls, then hail, a downright downpour – then sunshine. In the end, of course, there can only be one rainbow – or rather two rainbows: a double rainbow that spans roughly the southern end of Mauerpark and thus connects Prenzlauer Berg with Wedding – East and West. Super.
April in Berlin: the chestnut tree in the courtyard is wearing its greenest shirt, blue sky, white clouds, sunshine, birds chirping – and in the afternoon it is supposed to rain again… It’s April…
Looking out of the window on a Sunday afternoon: grey-grey clouds push across the Berlin sky, a few raindrops fall now and then. The chestnut tree still has no leaves – the pigeons still no roof over their heads. The backyard is waiting for spring.
The Zion Church ‘Zionskirche’ in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg – evening mood. The picture is taken with an iPhone4 – no HDR image, no photo enhancement app, and no filter were involved – even though it might look like that at first glance. However, this is one of two photos that I actually wanted to assemble into an HDR image. But the light, the sky, and the deep black silhouette of the Zion Church were dramatic enough for me.
All good things come in threes – so I finished a third Öresund Bridge wallpaper and made wallpapers in 9 sizes available for download. This time the pylons are the motif – so the imposing bridge piers that hold the hanging part of the Öresund Bridge. Everyone who has ever driven over the bridge by car will know this view…
So… The Eurovision Song Contest 2013 is over and the winner is decided: the Danish entry of Emmelie de Forest got the most points and so the ESC now moves from Malmö to Copenhagen.
I found this a fitting opportunity to give myself a jolt and immediately finish a second Öresund Bridge wallpaper. On this picture you can see the bridge from the north – probably THE view of the Öresund Bridge.
The picture was taken on a warm summer evening – but in the end I titled it “Öresund Bridge at night” because I think that is more appropriate than “…in front of the evening sky”. Anyway.

Malmö 2013 – just in time for the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 I finally reworked the wallpaper section and added a first image for download: the Öresund Bridge in the evening light.
What this has to do with the Eurovision Song Contest? Well – the ETC 2013 takes place in Malmö – and the bridge connects Malmö with Copenhagen – Sweden and Denmark – Scandinavia and Europe. And Eurovision also connects Europe. It’s as simple as that.
